Fitness Class Changes and Announcements for May 2010:
- Starting April 30th, we have found a substitute for Cecile Myer's every Friday 10:15am Pilates Class...Dianne Simmons, who is certified, experienced and highly recommended. Welcome Dianne! Dianne will be teaching this class until the end of August when Cecile will return.
- Due to a recent foot injury, Sallie will no longer be able to teach her every Monday 10am Step Aerobics Class. Nicole and Carey will cover this class until the end of April; after that, for now, this class time slot is cancelled. But starting May 1, since we haven't located a step aerobics replacement for the 10am time slot, we are going to try an every Monday 11am Step Aerobics Class, also taught by Diane Simmons. This will be a trial for the month of May to see if we get a good turnout. This would be a good lunchtime workout; and if you can stay, follow it up with:
- Pam McGeorge's good core building Mondays Pilates Class at noon.
- For our cycling enthusiasts, don't forget Carey has added another Monday evening cycling class, due to high turnouts. She teaches both a 5pm and 6pm Cycling Class every Monday evening
- Hey you line dancers!, Walter wanted me to remind you he has added an every Friday, 5:15pm line dancing class. The level of this class will be based on turnout and feedback. If you desire a fast paced intermediate/advanced class, just let Walter know (or email me!).
- Lastly, I am getting an enormous amount of positive feedback on our new Continuation Class---Manic Mondays, at 6pm, in the upstairs fitness room. Wanda, Nicole, Shep and Jesse have really put a lot of thought into making this a fun challenging and ever changing cardio workout. Because of the high turnout, they have put a sign-up sheet at the front desk and have requested, to be fair to all, that you sign up in person (no emails or phone messages please). Sheet will be available for first come/first served sign-ups starting every Tuesday at 3:00pm.
- And for those of you wanting to strengthen those core muscles and add more stretching and flexibility to your routine, don't forget, we have moved Galena's one hour Pilates class to every Monday at 5:00pm, directly after Manic Mondays. Great cardio follow-up.
- You can also find these classes on our color coded Weekly Fitness Calendar, available at the front desk and also on our website. Weight Management Fitness classes in red, Continuation in yellow, and "open to all classes" are in all other colors.
- And for Continuation members only, don't miss our April Continuation lecture (FOURTH Thursday in April) at both 11am and 6pm on Thursday, April 22nd, presented by Dr. Robert Petry, Licensed Clinical Psychologist and ZGKey WM Program graduate, titled "Putting Brain Power On Your Platter, Mind Over Batter". Dr Petry will be speaking on food addiction and behavior modification.
- Dr. Petry received his doctorate from Kent State University. He has advanced training in behavioral therapy from Temple University, in alcohol addictions from Rutgers University and in hypnosis, trauma, and OCD with professors at Harvard University.
As a Virginia licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Petry has specialized in the treatment of eating disorders, habits, compulsions and addiction.
- For our May 20th Continuation lecture (which will be the THIRD Thursday in May), at both 11:00am and 6:00pm, Dr. Steven Butnik, Licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in ADD and ADHD and also ZG Key WM Program graduate and member, will be speaking on "Can ADD be making me gain weight? Or is there just too much on my plate."
- And sometime in the near future, Dr. Michael Strachan, a top-rated rheumatologist in Richmond (Richmond magazine Top Docs), has agreed to come in and speak at 11:00am only on various forms or arthritis and their diagnosis and treatment. We have not settled on a date yet and this may be offered to all members (not just Continuation and Weight Management). Will update you in a future email.
